KENNEBUNKPORT
Homeownership for the Local Community
The average home price in Kennebunkport reached $1.8 million this spring. That reality is pricing out the very people who keep the town running—teachers, fishing and lobstering workers, small business owners, and caregivers as well as older residents on fixed incomes.
Enter Neighborhood Housing Trust (formerly Kennebunkport Heritage Housing Trust), which broke ground in 2025 on Landon Woods. With support from Genesis, six affordable homes for ownership are under construction near a park and local trails, on land that was gifted by the Town of Kennebunkport.
The project is also funded by MaineHousing’s Affordable Homeownership Program, a statewide initiative to expand the supply of affordable homes for purchase. Bangor Savings Bank and community donors also brought funding.
Landon Woods follows the successful model of Heritage Woods, the Trust’s first affordable neighborhood in Kennebunkport, which Genesis also supported.
Projects like this don’t happen without local vision and the right tools. By helping families put down roots and stay in the community, Landon Woods strengthens the workforce, supports civic life, and keeps the doors open to year-round opportunity on the coast.
“We hope more local landowners consider making land available to expand affordable homeownership opportunities for residents who contribute to the life of the community year-round.”
